How do i get my 11 month old to sleep in crib?
-
I have two problems. The first is that my 11 month old sleeps in bed with us. She wont fall asleep in her crib. If I try to lay her down after she's already asleep she just wakes up right away or after about 5 or 10 mins. It is the same with naps. If i do not hold her for the whole nap then she doesnt sleep. The second problem is that she cannot fall asleep without nursing. Once in awhile I can rock her to sleep but usually has to nurse. Then she wakes up 5 to 10 times a night crying I have no idea why. She usually has to nurse to go back to sleep. My husband can't sleep because every time he moves he wakes her up. Half the time he sleeps on the couch. I can't sleep because I am being woken up so much and constantly worried about the situation. I don't know what to do. I am exhausted and miserable. I have researched sleep training methods and solutions nothing seems to work. Ultimately I would like to stop nursing during the night and have her sleep in her crib at night and for naps. Any advice? I'm so tired please help!

take a deep breath....she's only sleeping like this because its what she's used to and that's not a bad thing. she has to get used to her crib being her bed, and it can take a little getting used to for a little one...its tough but what helped with my daughter was putting her in her crib for naps at first. yes she cried, and screamed blue murder but i would keep her in her crib, comfort her and be there with her but i would not take her out of the crib - after 2-3 days she got used to being put in there, then we had to teach her to sleep in her crib. i would wait for her to show her early signs of being tired and would take her up to her room, pop her in her crib, she had a small teddy that she loved to rub with her fingers so i would put that in with her, sit with her for 5 minutes talking gently to her and as she was dozing off i would leave her and wait outside the bedroom door. the first few times i done this she would cry a little bit but i would make myself wait for about 5 minutes before going in to see to her, 9 times out of 10 she was asleep before the 5 minutes were up. when she got used to naps in the crib i would do exactly the same for night time but i would give her her bottle about 15 minutes before she went to bed and go through the same routine with her so she knew it was sleep time. it took a little while for her to get used it and at first we had more bad nights than good nights but she finally got it and now she sleeps all night. if she cried or disturbed i wouldn't go to her straightaway, i'd always wait 5 minutes as often it was me going to see to her that was waking her up more!! the only time i would go to her straightaway was if she woke really screaming and crying. as for losing the nighttime feeds, my daughter kind of dropped those on her own as she started sleeping better, it was her choice more than mine. whatever road you go down, its not going to happen overnight, be strong and stick to your guns and eventually she will get used to it :) good luck hx
My daughter was like this. She never slept in our bed but she hated her crib. You just have to be consistant. Have a night time routine, a bath, feed, cuddle and put her down in her crib. It's okay to let them cry. It took me almost 3 months of just stroking her hair while she laid in her crib to fall asleep before I could actually just put her down and leave without her having a fit, but I was very consistant, she knew she wasn't comming out of the crib until morning, and adventually she got it. Listening to the crying can be hard, but you have to break the habit, unless you don't mind her sleeping in your bed for a long time.
ferber method...
