How do i install an Evenflo Discovery 5 Infant Car Seat without using the base?

  • I read on a website that was advertising this car seat that if properly installed the seat can be used with or without the base, but it has no instructions on how to put the seat in without the base. the reason why i ask is because i have this carseat and i am running into a problem when i put the seat in the car with the base it tilts to far up and my daughter cannot hold her bottle correctly to actually get anything out of it or has a hard time keeping her head back because she is leaning to far foreward (the seats in the truck are shaped weird they are tilted up slightly on the end) any way does any one know how to put just the seat in without using the base? i think i know how to do it(something to do with the slots on the sides of the seat near the feet) but just want to be sure. thanks!

    Are you turning the car seat toward the rear window? Most are design to sit upright. If you use without a base I highly recommend going to a local CHP office to get assistance. CHP have a car seat program and you can call or go up there and they will properly install. Hope this helps

Ok - first - a carseat is to keep your child safe in an accident, not for feeding. it is extremely important that you have your carseat level per the level line on the discovery. There is a line that says "level to ground". if your carseat is too verticle to this line, you can use a tightly wound towel or a pool noodle in the bite of the carseat to get the correct recline. However, you must also have this same recline without the base or else this seat will not work properly in an accident. So I think your best bet, is to make an appointment with a car seat tech - www.seatcheck.org and get your seat correctly installed with the base before you start messing with installing it without the base. Please also make sure you always have this handle DOWN while driving... it cannot be left up.
