no you shouldnt give them water the milk is all it really needs until 4-6 months*or when ever the baby starts solids*

No water! Hiccups aren't hurting your daughter, whether or not you think they bother her. Hiccups are really common in newborns, and you certainly can't give water every time they get them. Just let them be, they'll go away on their own.

No water. She is getting plenty of water thru the breastmilk. You can actually harm a baby by giving them straight water. Your baby is taking in too much air. The hiccups will go away on their own. My Daughter would get them a lot too and finally settled down. Make sure she is latching properly and sucking on the breast right.

Don't worry about the hiccups!! There is no need to stop your baby from having the hiccups... they don't hurt and she will get them a lot. Right now all your baby needs is your milk, nothing else. With my boys just nursing them got their hiccups to go away, but I didn't do it to make them go away, but to feed them.

I wouldn't give her any water. Hiccups are a very normal part of infancy. Here's a good article on why you shouldn't offer water to a breastfed baby: http://kellymom.com/nutrition/solids/baby-water.html Breastmilk is mostly water. Here's a very good article on why you shouldn't offer anything besides breastmilk before 6 months, in order to preserve the pristine infant gut, also called the virgin gut: http://www.breastfeed.com/articles/issues-for-mom/the-case-for-the-virgin-gut-3451/ This is very important for proper digestive and immune system development. Doctors are notorious for offering misleading and even harmful information. Many family doctors get very little education on breastfeeding, infant care, and pregnancy, and they tend to rely on very outdated standards that have little basis in evidence-based medicine, but doctors continue to practice them because they're passed down from other doctors. It's okay to question the information that your doctor gives you. Doctors are people, too, and they make mistakes. Just because your doctor recommends something does *not* mean it's the only option, nor does it make it okay. It's important for parents to educate themselves so they can know when they're getting advice that might not be the best. Many people might say "I gave my babies water, and they're fine!" or "My mom gave me water when I was a baby, and I'm fine!" That's anecdotal and not evidence-based. There is plenty of actual research and medical evidence to suggest that giving water to a baby is *not* a good idea.

Baby hiccups a lot...totally normal. DO NOT GIVE WATER. I can't believe he said to give her water. It isn't going to help

I was told by my nurse to offer my daughter my breast, for milk, when she has the hiccups for a prolonged period of time. It creates the exact same reaction as water would, so be safe and just give her a little bit of milk.

Maybe an oz but I wouldn't go over 2 ounches. Hiccups don't bug babies they get them all the time in the womb unless they seem to bug her I wouldn't be worried about it. Edit: oh ok then try maybe an oz or two of water or nursing may help too. & Water can not harm a baby! Her doctor would not tell you to do soemthing that will harm your baby.

yep. one oz. our bodies are made up of water, so its absolutely ridiculous for people to tell you not to give your baby a tiny bit of water. you can NOT harm a baby by giving them an ounce of water! my mom gave me and my sister water. her mom gave her and her twin sister water. i have given my babies water... guess what... we are all fine!
