Are all infant car seat BASE the same?

Graco Snugride infant car seat base compatibilty?

  • We have a Snugride infant car seat and base. We want to get extra bases. I bought a Graco LiteRider base at a garage sale. The Snugride car seat snaps perfectly into place in the LiteRider base, but I want to MAKE SURE that they are fully compatible before I start putting my baby in it. Can anyone confirm or deny that the Graco SnugRide infant car seat can be used with the Graco LiteRider base? Thanks!

  • Answer:

I've never heard of the LiteRider base, but I wouldn't use anything used. You have no way of knowing the expiration date, possible mis-use or if it's been in an accident. The only way to know for sure is to call Graco and ask.

Talk to the company. Nobody on here could comfirm for certain. There's a 1-800 number to call. Personally, I think it is safer to just strap the seat into the car without a base than buy one from a garage sale.

You should definitely call Graco. I do not believe a Graco Snugride carseat will fit onto a Graco Safeseat base and I'm not sure about the LiteRider.

Well....as another poster put it, you really shouldn't use it either way. You have no way of knowing the history of the base - its not just the seat that matters, its the base. The base is what actually holds the seat to the car, so its just as important to make sure it has never been in any accidents and has not expired. If you wouldn't trust the seller with your child's life, don't use a car seat/base from them. And you absolutely can not just go by what the seller said - some just don't know the rules about car seats, and some are only interested in selling a seat. I'm not sure they even still make the lite rider line (it was a travel system) so that might be a good indication that the base is expired. The base should have a label on it, or, Graco will often imprint the underside of the base with "Do Not Use after ___". But even if its not expired, you're still left not knowing if its been in an accident. Yes - the literider did use a Graco SnugRide seat, but the SnugRide has had some changes made to it in the last few years (like they no longer make a 3 point harness model, which may have come with that base) that could cause it not to work properly with that base.
