What is the day to day job like for a Labor & Delivery Nurse?

• Lately I've been thinking about going into Nursing and specializing in Labor and Delivery. But I would like to know if it really is something I should consider before I get ahead of myself? Mainly I chose this because (as bad as it sounds) I love watching the shows like "A Baby Story" and shows like that where they show all of that. It really interests me, I love babies, and I think it would be a really wonderful job to bring life into the world everyday. And yes, I know it's not like that everyday. There can be issues at times and I'm prepared for that. I would mainly like to know what the expectations are, the daily jobs/tasks, responsibilities, etc. I would love if a nurse with this job could reply and tell me how they like their job! :)

  I am a registered Nurse, I used to work in Labor and delivery for 3 years now I work at the emergency room, it was really interesting because you get to help doctors bring babies into this world. A daily day would be to register and monitor a women that is about to go into labor, check baby's heartbeat and check how dialated the women is in order to call the doctor. When no one is in labor you have to monitor premature babies and keep record of when you feed them, or inject their medicine. This is an interested unit the only thing that is hard at first is having to poke a baby with a needle, but you get used to it. Before becoming a Nurse I used to also watch medical shows such as "A Baby Story". If you are interested in this area I would definitely recommended. Good luck
