Is it ok to install a car seat without the included base?

It is ok as long as the seat belt is in the little slots on the car seat and the seat belt wont move, the only problem you may have is that it can be a pain for you to put the car seat in and out all the time, i used to have to crawl into the back seat to do it and its not fun with a small car, and to the woman who said it is illegal is stupid i haven't ever seen anything about it being illegal anywhere on the internet, in canada we have pretty high standards and you can use the car seat without the base, the base is normally just for easy in and out of the car my friend is an american cop and even he says there is no state in the usa that says it is illegal to not use the base with a car seat that doesn't not need the base.

Obviously using the base is safer, but you can install a car seat without it. If you look on the side of the car seat, there should be directions and pictures to show you how to correctly and safely mount it. I would also recommend taking it to your local police station or fire department after you get it installed and have them check to make sure you have it installed correctly.

i wouldn't suppose so....The base is included for a reason. use the base no mattter how much room it takes up even if you trust your driving...you can never trust the people who are on the road with you. Be careful

I would say DEFINITELY use the base no matter how much room it takes up. The safety of your child is all that matters. There is a reason a Base comes with the car seat.

as long as the infant seat you have doesnt require the base it's fine. i usually get a better fit in the car without the base.

I have the same problem. People say the base is safer. But in my opinion with the base it's always wobbly and never fully secure. If you just strap it in with the seatbelt (they have little clips on each side to slide the seatbelt in) it is a LOT safer I think. It holds the baby down much more secure and the seat doesn't wobble. The base is really for convenience so you don't have to strap the seat in every time. Which is a pain. I have a 3 year old in a booster seat & a 4 week old and we live in steamy hot Florida. So I have to walk around the car and strap them both in. By the time I get in I am dripping in sweat, LOL. So to answer your question I'ma go with "YES" i have installed the seat without using the base. & "YES" I think it is MUCH safer than using the base because it is held down much more sturdy :)

There are little grooves in the sides of the car seat and thats where you can put the seat belt. It is not against the law here in the states thats why the grooves are there!!! Here we have a public health department that does free seat checks and gave us a CHAD sticker (that i'd recommend looking to find one). They made sure out little one is safe and secure! Good luck

that would be against the law and endangering the life of a child....you will get a huge fine and could even get jail time...also family and child services would be called in....so FIGURE OUT HOW TO GET THE BASE OF THAT CAR SEAT INTO YOUR CAR OR BUY A BIGGER CAR!! ...sorry but i have to add...are you out of your mind thinking That yOU could put the seat in without the base????!!!
