How much per month does a pilot get?

How To Convince Parents To Get Me A Credit Card?

  • So here is the deal. I need a credit card because sometimes I don't always have the money for minor purchases. I.E I own a plane ( Actually I have a 1/4 share of it) and sometimes I want to fly but don't have the money for fuel ( 60$ or so for a quick flight). I get paid every two weeks, I spend my money fast but smart. ( Yes I'm a 16 year old with a plane who is a pilot) Here is my scenario * I have a job in which I make 1,200 or so a month *I'm 16 *My parents understand I am financially responsible *I'm not rich or spoiled *I have a debit card And yes, I understand the risks and responsibilities in owning a credit card; I won't be one of those people who charges 2,000 on it with a 20$ per month payment. I'll have off ALL my debt at the end of the month. So how can I convince them, and would you personally get your own child a credit card?

  • Answer:

The longer you wait the better. Its good to build credit but you dont know what youre getting yourself into. Credit cards get so many people into trouble. Im 18 and I have a job, but I dont want a credit card simply because I dont want the responsibility right now, and I dont want to crash my credit score when I was young and stupid. Its easy to say "ill make sure ill pay it off". Its good that youre saying that, but at your age it will most likely be the opposite Not trying to make you feel bad, but there are so many adults that cant even manage their credit cards. Imagine someone younger. At your age I had a job, but I had no debit card yet. I got one later. I used to carry cash with me all the time( now that I have a debit card i dont know how I did it, lol going to get cash at the bank all the time). So youll live. You do not need one now. Think twice. Dont crash your credit score this young. You will regret it, and you wont be able to get it back up.

I guess all you can do is ask them and show you're responsible. :\ I would never get my teenage son/daughter a credit card. I think it's an adult responsibly and the only reason I have one is to have credit for getting a car/renting for credit checks. If you make that much a month and have financial problems (need money to buy small items) then maybe you should reevaluate all the money you're spending on.

" I need a credit card because sometimes I don't always have the money for ***minor purchases***." $60 for a quick flight (after refuel) "*I'm 16 *My parents understand I am financially responsible *I'm not rich or spoiled" You're far from responsible enough to have one if you're wasting your money on stuff such as this in my opinion. $60 is a lot of money for a lot of teens your age... "minor" purchase my butt...

Just ask them. If they say yes, then woohoo. If they say no, I am sorry.

I wouldn't get myself a credit card even if I afforded one. Extra payment is still extra payment.

You really should tell them exactly what you wrote here! You about covered it all. Just let them know that you will be responsible...and compromise to let them be the card holder (but with your name...since you have to do that anyway since you are under 18)....and tell them that if you show any sign of being irresponsible, they can cancel/take away the card. But i have to ask...why a credit card over a debit card?? You can do basically everything the only difference is benefits/rewards (which you don't need now anyway)....and you can obviously pay later....but with a debit card, just put your money on the card and manage it before hand. It does work.
