Gynecologist visit for the first time..Helpp? Okay im going to the gynecologist for the first time next week and I just want to know what to expect and what going to happen? I'm going because of period problems i've been having and also to be put on birth control. Also, can they be able to tell if you've had sex or not? I just want to know what they do at this kind of an appointment. Thanks!

Answer:
They won't be able to tell unless you've just had sex recently. Then they will find sperm. If you have not been sexually active ever, expect the examination to hurt. My first one was painful, but at least it's over with pretty quick. It won't hurt again next time. Basically they'll just do a pap on you and send it to lab to make sure everything is ok. You'll get asked a bunch of questions about your health and lifestyle as well. Since you are experiencing period problems, I'm not sure what else they'll do.

Its not a big deal- I was so scared the first time I went (at 18) but it really wasn't so bad. Wear cool socks They can't tell for sure if you've had sex or not, but it's a good idea to tell them. All they have is your health in mind, they aren't going to discipline you or anything. If you're a virgin, a pap smear is optional.
They might be able to tell and you should be honest if asked. The doc is going to examine your vagina by hand and probably with a speculum, a tool to hold it open to allow a good look and collection of samples. The doc will press on your lower abdomen while putting fingers in vaginal or rectum. Since you have already been active this probably won't be to painful. All this is normal and important for the doc to decide what to do for you. You will be asked the date your last period started.
Yes they can tell. thats how my parents found out a LOOONG time ago. they will just examine you, test you for STD's, your first time will be scary but it gets easier I promise. Wait till you have a baby, you have to go every week almost. GOOD LUCK.
You'll probably have a pap smear, they do that to almost all women who go to the doctor. They swab your vagina to check for cancer. It's not that big of a deal. Yes your doctor will be able to tell if you've had sex. If you're worried about the doctor telling your parents, they can't. They'll talk about your life style. Like if you have sex with mutilple partners, or if you smoke, things like that.
Yes your doc will know if you have had sex or not, luckily if you don't want your mom to know they will ask you before (I lied in front of my mom at first) then they will ask you again when you go into the room. Just tell your mom you want to do it on your own. Either way she will know when she looks, she will understand if you say you just didn't want your parent or guardian to know. They will put you in a room and slap the gown down on the table and probably tell you to undress completely ( you will more than likely get a breast exam as well) When I first went I was your age too and I totally flipped out and started crying when they asked me to do this! I have no idea why looking back now, it was an embarrassing experience at the time. Really it is not that bad, these doctors have seen everything. They see breasts and vagina's like we see cars everyday. So really there is no need to be embarrassed. She will probably do a breast exam first (if she does one at all i'm not sure) she will have you lay down and lift your arm and she will press all around it probably asking you questions at the same time. Then you just scoot your bottom down and put your feet in the stirrups when she asks you to. She will probably do a pap smear which really hurt for me because I have a tilted uterus (which is normal if you have it too, its like having blue or brown eyes my doctor told me) and I was also very tense. So just relax and you will be fine. Good luck!
I went for the first time when I was 23.. it is nothing to be scared about. The part you're scared about is literally over with in about 2 minutes, if that. They are all usually very nice and don't make you feel uncomfortable. Remember, they do this everyday.
No need to worry, if you are going because of your menstrual cycle there will certainly be no need for him/her to have a look inside your vagina, what good would that do. Just make sure you have all your start and stop dates written down. They won't test for Sexually Transmitted Infections unless you want him/her to. They can't just go poking around at their own wish you know. It's your body, remember that.
