What college is the best?

What to do about a clique of "hometown best friends" at college?

  • I am headed off to a pretty small college next year (3,000 total students) and I've been making some friends, but obviously nothing like REALLY close yet, just some acquaintances. Via facebook, i know truly the majority of the incoming freshmen class, it's pretty small. I've found, though, that there are like six girls from the same town in Vermont who are all best friends and are ALL going to this school together! They seem nice (I've only met two of them, at Orientation) and I'm not about to pass judgement on them, but the two I did meet were kind of kept talking baout their home friends and stuff. There are six of them, so they signed up to be in triples, in a suite, so they're all going to be together...it's just kind of annoying. On their facebooks, they keep posting things like "Ya hahahh we're not making any new friends, just the Six, always and foreverrrrr yay!" and i know that might be a joke or whatever, but slowly and surely, they've started making new friends at the school (prob from Orientation, facebook, accepted students day, majors, res halls, etc) and now there is like this little army at school of the "Six" and their "new" friends. I really am not afraid of not having friends in college, because I know I will have friends! I am excited to go to college and make new friends. I understand where those girls are coming from because I have three best friends from my hometown and I would have loved to go to college with them, but we all knew this was a new chapter in our lives and we split up. I just don't know what to do about, well, this JEALOUSY. I hate being jealous and I'm not sure why I am jealous. Probably becasue although I know I'll make friends, I'm jealous taht they already have BEST friends, I'm jealous that they didn't have to leave theirs behind.

  • Answer:

Don't be jealous, I mean plenty of people go into college without their friends and leave with better ones. Just do your own thing and everything will be fine.
