How do i convince my parents to buy me a car?

  • or, at the very least, buy me car insurance? i'm 16 and i have a license, but i don't have a car to drive. my parents have 2 cars, one of them is for work (so, i legally can't drive it), and the other one is an expensive sport's car (which my parents say is too much money to insure for a teenager, and i don't feel comfortable driving such a nice car). the thing is, i know that they could afford to get me an inexpensive, used car. i know that they could, at the very least, afford to buy me insurance on their expensive car. i'd prefer to just get a rusty old car for myself (i'd just feel more comfortable driving it + insurance would be cheaper). but my parents refuse to do so. they say that they don't have the money for it right now, but they go off and buy themselves lots of things that they don't really need that total up to the price of car insurance. it makes me really upset that they do this. i know it's their money and their choice what to do with it, but i feel like it's not really fair that they only consider their own desires when it comes to spending it. i have a part-time job, i would be more than happy to buy my own gas and pay for oil changes, etc. i'm tired of depending on my friends for rides, and i'm tired of not having independence. any advice for how to convince them? thanks

    Just because you have a liscence doesn't you entitle you to a car. That's silly that you think that. Why should they buy you one, anyways? You can always take the bus.

one thing that will help convince your parents is that the car is offered at the right price. and there's an app (and website) that will show them. check out used auto graph. good luck!

may i suggest getting a job to earn up the money to buy a car on your own? nothing feels as good as earning your own money and buying your first car. at sixteen i walked to work at mcdonalds since it was just up the street. if you work and save up your money for a car then a good 3000 will get a you a nice older car

If you are 16 love just get a job..maybe they cant afford you a car..its a big responsibility..buying a rusty car is not smart...it may require alot of work..car engine, oil change...etc...there is alot that comes with a car, so to say they can afford it is presumptuous. They would much rather buy you a dependable car then a car that will just sit in the driveway because its broken down...what you can do is tell them you will get a job and pay for your insurance,and oil changes ...tell them about a local car auction, because a monthly car note can be expensive...at least with a car from an auction it will somewhat be dependable, and you dont have to worry abou paying 300-400 a month on the note....dont rush into a car...get your bike...be safe if you do get a car...show them you are responsible and can actually HANDLE a car.

I'm 16 and I'd say tell your parents that perhaps if they buy you a cheap, even used car, you will promise to get a job to pay off the car yourself as well as any car insurance bill). I know it's hard, being 16 and not having any transportation. I'm in the same boat as you but having a car isn't really my biggest priority right now (FOR ME). But I'd say try out the idea I gave you. (?) Good luck!
