What do you do if you're absent from school, in terms of homework?

Back in elementary school teachers wouldn't care. If you were absent you didn't have to do homework, you'd either make up for it later or you'd skip that lesson.. But it seems as time goes on teachers want you to do the homework no matter what. I have a habit of being sickly and I go to the doctor for appointments often, so I'm worried about homework in high school. I don't keep contact with my friends, if I have any friends at that point, so I can't ask them to get me the homework. Few teachers also give you their emails so I can't ask them, and even if so what can I do if I don't have the papers or textbooks I need. My school is quite strict about homework too so I can't bother to not have my homework in.

Usually, my teachers have this folder or place you can pick up your homework that you missed. You could also ask your classmates too. Teachers get mad when you asked what you've missed that day.
