What rights do a 17 year old have in South Carolina?

I know they are allowed to leave home as I have talked to a police officer. What other rights do they have?

The police you spoke with was wrong. In 41 states it is not a crime when a minor runs away from home. However, in nine states (Georgia, Idaho, Kentucky, Nebraska, South Carolina, Texas, Utah, West Virginia, Wyoming) a child can be charged with running away. In these jurisdictions, a runaway is in violation of a “status offense”. This means it is against the law only when someone under 18 years old does it. The police was wrong. I live in Southern California. You can't leave home until you're 18. And until you're 18 you're still under your parents rules...you don't have any more rights than a 14-16 year old would.
under the law you are under the authority of your parents, you can't leave home until you are an adult. you would not have any other rights right now besides those of a 14-16 year old. your adult rights will be yours in 1 year.
