Losing weight - desperate teen in search of self confidence?
-
I'm 17, 210 lbs, 5'4", and not an active teen. Help? I'm fully aware that I'm obese but it's like all spread out and I want to get rif of some of it this summer. I'm hoping to lose at least ten pounds by August and then just continue losing weight when school starts up again. I'm sick and tired of being this way, I want to feel pretty and be comfortable with my body and not be shy when I'm wearing a bathing suit or getting dressed in gym. I'm disgusting and I can never keep up with anybody. Overall, I'm disgusted and disappointed with myself. Are there any diets and exercise routines you can offer? I won't have a support group - I'm all on my own in this because my family is comfortabel and lazy. Please help.. Other info: I have asthma - though it's mild. I love love love structure and I prefer lists of what to do. I don't have a ride or a licence so I can't go to a gym, and all I have at my house are tiny 5 lbs weights. I have no food allergies, medicine allergies and I'm not afradi of working out because I understand exercising is must-do in order to get healthy again.

Heeey :) i know exactly how you feel , im loosing weight at the moment and i admit , its hard at times . just start by walking as much as you can , maybee join a sporting team when you feel confindent enough (i joined a youth girls AFL team) 3 sets of 10 sit ups , crunches , start jumps and a 30 minute brisk walk everynight or every other night is what i do and it works ! then every 2 weeks change it around a bit . as for the food side of things , i like to think of eating junk food as littering my body . create a food diary if that helps. just eating the right foods is all you need to do , and trust me i sneak in the chocolate every now and then :P i also like to "eat an apple a day" and a big thing is water ! i only drink water , nothing else . water is the best thing for you :) also look up on the intertnet "i used to be fat" its a tv show on MTV and i get alot of insperation from it :) Good Luck with your weight loss :D and remember SMILE . BECAUSE NO MATTER WHAT YOU ARE BEAUTIFUL ! say this every morning , its a big confident booster :D

I'm in a similar situation. I'm 17 and 5,4 too. Looking to lose weight. I was wondering if maybe, you were up for having a weight loss buddy? We could email each other and trade diet tips and support. :) It could be fun. If you want to, my email is [email protected].
I'm 15, and I got to my ideal weight with eating healthy and exercising. Don't fall for fad diets- they don't work longterm and you'll gain the weight right back. Just remember that you CAN do this, you are capable of this. And you have to believe in yourself. This is not a "oh I'll do this till I lose a few pounds and then I'll go back to my old ways." No, if you are serious about this, this is a permanent lifestyle change (so worth it). I cut out all the junk food that I used to eat. When my mom offered me a cookie or whatever, I would turn her down. I stopped eating at fast food restraunts all the time. Basically what you need to do is, Eat smaller portions. You can always go back for more if you're still hungry, but start out with a smaller portion. Ask your mom to buy healthy food. She doesn't have to eat it, but you want to. Google what you need to be eating, do some research, and go to the grocery store with her and buy it. If she refuses, then you need to find a way to earn some extra money so you can buy these healthy foods yourself (get a job, do chores around the house, etc). You should also work on getting a license because that'll help you out a lot. Don't cut out every bite of junk food. The key is moderation. Maybe eat one cookie a day, or a hershey kiss, or every week have a day where you treat yourself to a piece of cake. The majority of the time, eat nutritious foods, and treat yourself (moderation- don't pig out) once in a while. So do some research and figure out what you need to be eating, and how much of it (Google is wonderful for this purpose). And if you explain to your mom that her child wants to live a healthier, longer, more active life, hopefully she'll understand. Whether she does or doesn't, don't give up. You're capable of this either way. And you gotta exercise. I speed-walked everyday with my mom, and I later started running. I also swam laps at the public swimming pool. I made sure I got atleast 1 hour of exercise every day, and that I broke a sweat. Focus a lot on cardio because that's what burns fat. Walking, running, swimming, dancing, biking, jump rope, etc. Push yourself, but don't overdo it nor push yourself too hard. Dont get hurt. Just what you can, and keep at it, because you'll improve as time goes on. And you can do crunches, lunges, squats, pushups, etc. Weights are very helpful, but I don't they're a total necessity. But you can build muscle and become defined, but it wont show until the fat comes off. So I'd research that and see if you should do that now or wait till you lose some fat first. Again, please do not push yourself way too hard because you don't want to get hurt. Good luck! :)
What you should start to do first is cut down your food intake. Eat five SMALL meals a day, and drink tons tons tons of water! I can't stress the water enough! But I'm 17, 5'4", and I used to weigh 203 pounds. I'm now down to 145 pounds, and used to I would wear hoodies and jeans all the time. Now I wear dresses, to work. To the movies I wear skirts, actual mini skirts. I never thought I would be able to wear cute clothes and look GOOD in them. I promise you you can do it, so dont ever give up. That's a big thing, you've gotta stay motivated. But once you start seeing results, that's the best motivation you can get! Start with the working out slowly. And build your way up. You'll get stronger, and be able to run faster. Start power walking for 10 minutes everyday, then build to 15 minutes when you get more comfortable. Start doing cruches, do 25 a day. Then build to 45, then 65, then keep going the more comfortable you get with them. It gets easier, so dont start worrying when your muscles feel like limp noodles. And lunges are awesome too! I still get sooo sore when I do them. They're a great workout for your legs. Dont forget to drink tonssss of water! And good luck lovee (:
I just got Gastric Band surgery April 11.. And i'm 14. I still have my bandages on, Lol. And I have missed this whole week of school Let me tell you, it hurt like a @#$%& though. >.< Although some people aren't available to surgery, I can tell you how I'm losing weight. This is advice from my doctor. You have to eat little to NO carbohydrates. Carbs are like drugs to us. Things that have no carbs :Protein, meat. And vegetables. I have lost 30 pounds in TWO WEEKS. It's really easy. Like a hamburger with some lettuce on it (No bread) has no carbs. And the most you can eat a day is 30 carbs. But I lost 18 pounds from the surgery. The rest of the 12 pounds I lost in two weeks was from not eating any carbs. Or at least VERY LITTLE. I'm not active either. I haven't even excersised. On Tuesday - Thursday of this week I have lost 5 pounds. No excersising, cause franklky I don't like excersising at all. :P I know how it feels. But if I were you, I would be thinking about getting Gastric band. But you know, some people can't get it. But I didn't pay a dime (Neither my parents, Lol) Because my insurance accepted it. But you can follow the advice my doctor gave me on how to lose weight, and it DOES work. Good luck :) Edit -- If you want, you can send me a message, and I can give you a lot more tips :3 Stay strong!! <3
Hi. I know how you feel, I have a weight problem too! I think the best way is to work out with a friend, it makes it fun! You can control your diet but not starve yourself. Oh, and its okay to eat carbs once in a while! :) Good luck!
Woah. Child hood obesity. JUST KIDDING. Well for one accept your self. You have medical problems, don't worry But I am sure if you start taking care of your body it will go away. Well just start exercising. Don't stress yourself. It takes maybe even years. What weight do you want to go to? maybe 100 at the least? DO NOT EVER starve yourself. That is unhealthy & it will make it worst. Well my mom isnt fat or anything but she uses weight watchers. try that. She has already lost about 20 pounds & I think is like 6 pounds away from her goal. & If anyone says something blow them off no one cares about their opinions. I hope this helped.?
Try keeping a journal. I have absolutely no self discipline so it never seems to work for me (the whole loosing weight thing) but I can usually do it for a week or so if I write down everything I eat and how much I excersise. It makes you think about it
