What do I have to know about student visa for the UK?

I'm applying for a UK student visa very soon, does anybody know how strict they are?

  • So basically the requirements they ask you to have is to have a Visa Letter and to show a certain amount of money in an account belonging to you. I've got the visa letter and all, but I'm quite short in terms of finances. I've still got a significant amount, just not as much as they say on the websites. Does anyone know if this will definately rule me out of getting a visa? Also, because it's a points system, and they say I need 40 points...Are there any other ways to get points (E.g. English proficiency) coz the visa letter counts for 30 points already, so If I can just muster up 10 from being a good boy then...

  • Answer:

You must make 10 points from the maintenance funds you cannot make up these points from any other attributes. So if you cannot show the required funds, you will definitely be refused a visa. You not only have to have the funds in an account accessible to you in the UK but you must have held them for at least 28 days before your application. You may also be required to show proof of funds again on entry to the UK. EDIT That's the trouble when people only give half the information in their questions you won't get full answers. You can, if this is your first student visa for the UK, submit bank account details in a parent's name provided you will have access to those funds to support yourself. It doesn't matter if your parents are billionaires, you have to satisy UKBA that you have access to the required amount of funds. There is no getting round this rule. If you do this you will aso have to submit evidence of your relationship to them. e.g. if it is your father's bank account, you will need to produce your birth certificate naming him as your father as proof of your relationship.. You will only be able to do this for your first student visa appplication. Any future extensions or visas and the required funds must be in a bank account in your own name. EDIT BTW if you are granted a student visa in your own right it makes NO difference whatsoever where your parents are living. The funds must still be available to you. Not quite sure what point Dancing with is trying to make but take no notice. Whatever immigration status your parents have has no bearing on your student visa. Presumably you are over 18 and therefore cannot come to the UK as a dependent, so it's irrelevant whether they can support you or not and they will most certainly NOT be asked to prove it. The onus is on you as the applicant to prove that you can support yourself. If your parents are willing to provide the funds and can provide bank statements to prove their availibility, they will not be asked for further evidence by UKBA, even if they are resident in the UK.

You need to have your scholars cursus and the finances to be able to access student visa. http://www.bia.homeoffice.gov.uk/studyingintheuk/adult-students/ It will rule you out if you do not qualify financially. I did not check on the points, where are you from ?

The finances part is mandatory. You need atleast the minimum that it states. I would get a-savin if I were you.

From watching t.v programs about the uk border force, it seems they are very strict, the paper work you provide must be real, they are very good at checking for fakes that you can buy off the web. the reason you must have some cash is they work out if you can support yourself on it for the duration of study, you may be able to work part time no longer then 20 hours a week to help finance. alot of people coming to the uk is because they want to work. just make sure everything you have is correct and in order and you shouldnt have a problem.

By the amount students sleeping on the streets (unable to feed, pay for accommodation & travel) as they can't afford a thing, it looks pretty easy to blag immigration on how much money you have. Do remember though lying on your visa application is fraud and as such could revoke your visa. Even if your parents have moved to the UK if they are not UK citizens, UK permanent residents, or EU citizens then it may not help you with getting the additional 10 points due to the fact they are subject to immigration control. This means they can be removed from the UK and you would then loose your support. Additionally by moving in with your parents you will have to prove by you living there it will not force them to taken government assistance and you would have to prove that by staying there you would not need to rely on government assistance. This can may be an extremely sensitive area if your parents are still subject to immigration control. You ask if there is another way to get the 10 points and the answer is no. My feeling if you do not have the required funds then there is a good chance your application will be rejected due to not having enough points.
