Question about renewing green card and getting passport?

• my green card recently expired. my foreign passport also has expired long time ago. I am planning a vacation outside the u.s and I know i need to take care of my paperwork before I can leave the country (or else i can't get back in). I do qualify for an american citizenship but right now i need an american passport asap. my questions are: how do i renew my green card? do i send in my old one if so where? how much does it cost to renew? how long does it take to obtain a passport? I heard that if you show that you have plans to travel you can get a passport really fast. do i have to renew my green card if i apply for an american passport?
