How to prepare for an interview?

How to prepare for Green card interview?

  • My mom came to USA as K-1 status so me with my sister are K-2 status. We applied for green card and my mom got an interview letter from USCIS before us. She has to prepare for the interview, but We are not sure what to bring for the interview. I would ask this question to someone who had experience in interview for green card before. Here are some question: 1. Do I(child) need to go with my mom? 2. Do my lawyer need to go with us? 3. Can you detail what we are going to bring for the interview? 4. They said on the letter " If you can't speak English fluently, you can bring interpreter" What exactly Interpreter can go with us? I mean can it be our lawyer? or relatives? Thank you so much I'm hoping to receive the answer soon.... 2.

If she is the only one scheduled for the interview, you (children) do not need to be there but you can accompany her for the comfort and wait in the hallway. Yes her lawyer may go with her and be present. Documents you need will be stated on the interview document. if your lawyer do not speak your language, you can have your lawyer and an interpreter (two) go to the interview with her.

Yes, it sounds like you have a lawyer. Your lawyer's job is to help you prepare for your interview. Most immigration officers will not allow the attorney to be your interpreter. It is also preferred that the interpreter not be a family member, unless there's no one else available. That's because USCIS can't rely on your attorney or family members to be neutral as they interpret.
