  Why is this under immigration? Have you been working on an employment visa? If so, you are barred from collecting unemployment under any circumstances. Employment visa holders are NOT covered under unemployment insurance. In fact, when an employment visa holder loses their job, their visa is revoked and they must immediately leave the US! If you are a US citizen or legal permanent resident and put this in the wrong category, eligibility for UI depends on your reason for leaving your employment, if you were a covered employee (not an independent contractor, etc). If you are not eligible for UI because you were not an employee, or you were terminated for cause, or you quit your job, there is no way to collect unemployment. Likewise, if you did not work long enough or earn enough on the job to have credits under this insurance, you are ineligible. Fewer than half of the people in the US who lose/leave their jobs are ever eligible for unemployment. It's only about 43% of the unemployed who are ever eligible.
