Visa for Student Exchange?

I am international exchange student holding J-1 Visa. Can I change my visa status to F-1?

  • I am international exchange student holding J-1 Visa. I want to change my visa status to F-1 because I want to study and complete my undergraduate in the US. I have a mandatory rule of physical presence in my home country before I can apply for H, K and L visa. My J-1 visa expires in 5 months. My requirement is based on Section 212(e) of the Immigration and Nationality Act, as amended, and Title 22 Part 40 and Part 41.Is it possible to change the visa status here in the United Status? How can I study further in the US? What are the processes if it is possible to change the visa-status?

  • Answer:

Go see a Aila immigration lawyer to ensure you do it correctly but the HSS says you go home in 5 months
