Is it legal to pass pets past the American border to Canada?

Would it be easier for a Canadian to move to the USA, or an American to move to Canada?

  • I have a friend who lives in Canada, and we want to live together someday. But is seems SO difficult to move across the border! I was wondering which would be easier, her moving here, or me moving there. And also, I would like to go to college there (I am currently a junior in high school, hoping to move there after I graduate). How would that work, and would I be able to permanently live in Canada after I finish school? If it's easier for her to move here, how long would that take and how much would it cost? I tried to look this info up on www.cic.gc.ca and the US government pages, but it's just a bunch of confusion and doesn't give me the information I'm looking for. *Bonus* Someone suggested I do this, and I don't know if it would work: I get a passport then visit her. While I'm there I get a student visa. After that I apply for immigration. If I pass, I can stay and it's easy because I already live there. Then I can continue with my studies. Would that work? -I want to be a Nurse Anesthetist BTW, if that means anything.-

  • Answer:

Generally to immigrate in either direction a person would need an education first so you would qualify as a skilled worker. You can't just move with no means of supporting yourself. You could apply for a student visa if you were accepted at a Canadian school but you would have to return as soon as school was over and you can't work with a student visa You cannot apply to immigrate from within the country, you would have to go back home to do that. If you went to school in Canada you would have to pay international student fees, which are about double the regular fees.

Canadians prefer to hire their own. I have dual citizenship and a home in both countries. But I consider myself Canadian.
