How can my mom get a Libyan passport?

How do I get my passport through my mom?

  • My mom got naturalized last summer and received her passport shortly after that. I'm planning on going to South America next summer, but I realized I do not have a valid passport, and since I am a minor I get it through my mother. What forms do I have to fill out in order to get my U.S. passport? How long does it take to get one?

  • Answer:

You must apply in person at a U.S. Passport office or at CERTAIN U.S. Post Office branches (most post offices do NOT have anything to do with passports). You will need to attach to your passport application: •a copy of your parent's naturalization certificate •a copy of your birth certificate or adoption papers showing that that parent is your parent, •a copy of your green card, and •proof that you live with your parent (copies of school records or medical records, for example). Although your parent's naturalization certificate says that it is illegal to photocopy it, it is all right to copy it in order to apply for a U.S. passport. Take the original naturalization certificate with you, so that it can be compared to the photocopy, when you file the passport application. If you are younger than 18 years old and residing in the U.S. with your mom (i.e. you have a green card), then you are a U.S. citizen under the Child Citizenship Act of 2000. However, to document that, you should apply for a Certificate of Citizenship from USCIS. This will then give you the citizenship documentation for your DS-11 passport application.

Were you born in the US or do you have proof of citizenship if you got your US citizenship when your mom did? If you have US birth certificate/proof of citizenship then you can just go to the post office with your mom and fill out the forms and get your picture taken there. It takes around 4-6 weeks to get the passport, or you can get it rushed and it will arrive in like 2 or maybe 3 weeks. This has all the info on what ID/papers you'll need to bring, etc. http://travel.state.gov/passport/get/first/first_830.html

You can get the application from the main Post office. Call first. Then you send itin with the fee and two passport pics, which you can have taken at Walgreens, and an original copy of your birth certificate.
