How to move from Ireland to Toronto?

I have decided that I really DO wanna move permanently to Ireland from Portugal.?

  • Hi there! This is my finally decision. I have made up my mind, and I do, indeed, want to move to Ireland. I wanna assist River-dance shows, interact with Irish people, breath the northern climate, attend Irish pubs and drive on the left side of the road. I'm sick of Portugal's sunny days, and it's conformism for Soccer and never ending Corporate Nepotists. I can't accept the fact, of living and developing my life, where I was born. Yet, a few doubts are stuck on my mind, when it comes to Immigration within countries outside the "Schengen Area". I'm from Portugal, a country inside EU, along side Ireland. However, Ireland, does not belong to the "Schengen Treaty", just like United Kingdom. Which means I don't have free roam between this countries (Portugal - Ireland), right? As Portuguese I have the ability to move to France, Italy, Germany without any kind of paperwork, but my Portuguese ID and Drivings License. What documents do I require to move to Ireland? How many years do I need to reside in Irish soil, in order, to apply for Irish citizenship. (I wanna renounce my Portuguese citizenship) Is it a long process. Or can I simply move to Ireland, and acquire the civilian rights, right the way? Do I need a Passport?(I've heard of British fellows in need of some kind of Passport to move to the european continent) I really need to know what documents do I need before immigrating, please inform what documents are mandatory. I don't want to be committing felony, due to lack of migration knowledge. Side Question: Once I achieve Irish citizenship, am I change my name? Any input regarding the subject of this thread, would be much appreciated. Note: I've asked a similar question to this one, but no such look, as I got lack of feedback and different answers.

  • Answer:

You won't have any problem getting there. You have the right to travel there -- but Ireland isn't a member of Schengen because the UK isn't, and they have an open border with the UK. The UK wanted to maintain their own border control. You'll show your passport getting into the UK or Ireland, and they'll let you in. That's all. It just means you'll have to show your ID.

Other answers

The Schengen treaty does not affect the rights of an EU citizen regarding free movement and does not alter the documentation needed for registration when relocating to a new member state. Have you got a real question?

Não podias apenas ter dito que querias mudar para a Irlanda sem falar mal de Portugal? Sim, nós somos isto e aquilo... e agora quem te diz como são os irlandeses?! E generalizar para quê? Enfim... juízo, não?!
