How to get German citizenship?

How can I get a German citizenship without losing the one I have now?

  • I would love to get a German citizenship, and live in Germany in the future, but how can I do that without losing my Norwegian citizenship? I live in Norway for the time being. My great-grandmother was born in Germany, but not my mother nor grandmother. I have relatives in Germany whom i've met in real life, and was wondering if this would make a slightest difference in getting a German citizenship. I am worried i'll have to terminate my norwegian citizenship if i get the German one. Is there a way to keep them both? Many thanks in advance!

  • Answer:

You can't. People who acquire German citizenship through naturalization MUST renounce prior citizenships. It's German law.

The best thing is that you contact a German consulate and ask those questions. I think you can still live in Germany without the citizenship.
