In order to obtain residency, you must enter the US on an immigrant visa. If you marry her, she can file a spousal visa for you. It costs around $1,000US and takes 9-12 months to obtain. Once you enter the US with this type of visa, called a CR-1, you will receive a 2 year permanent residence card in the mail within about a month. Using this type of visa, you would be eligible to apply for US citizenship after 3 years of having a greencard and remaining married to the spouse who sponsored you. It is very important that you do not enter the US on the visa waiver program, get married, then attempt to file for permanent residency. In the past year or so, these type of cases have been flat out denied, and deportation would follow. Here is a guide to filing for a CR-1 visa: http://www.visajourney.com/content/i130guide1

The best way is to apply to see if you can get a job over there. Failing that if you have any qualifications you could apply to the American Embassy in London, but if you have any of the above, but then of course it depends where you want to go over there... because you need to work. Many years ago my Eldest Daughter went over to be a Nanny for some very wealthy people, and after her contract was over she came home, but she had met her future Husband, and while at home he came over to meet us and to ask if he could marry her. We liked him so of course said yes. We arranged the wedding and then he came back and she was married in her own Church. They went back together as Man and Wife... and she has never regretted it , and neither did her Father and I. They live on Long Island, New York and she has become an American Citizen. I visit as much as I can and find it just superb,,, and also the People. Plus I have travelled all over during my visits, and find that people in all walks of life... always greet you..! by just saying Hello....Something that does not happen now in the UK We are becoming a miserable nation of people.... sad to say... but that is because we do not like or ever will what has happened to our beloved Country.
