What's it like working at Marshalls?

Moving to Japan but not working there. Whats the policy etc?

  • I tend to work all over the place. So what I might be looking to do is get a place to live in Japan where I will stay when I am not busy working away. I just wondered what the policy would be if I were living in Japan, but not actually working there. Sometimes I can be home from work for a few months before heading back out for work so its not just gonna be a few weeks, soemtiems ill be there a while, but still nto working :) A little light on the situation would be great! • Answer:

You can't live there. You can get a visitor's visa for 3 months but you can't live there. Japan is absolutely serious about immigration laws. Don't violate them if you know what's good for you.

Yak Rider is correct, Japan has very strict immigration laws. Unless maybe you are of Japanese ancestry you don't stand much chance of living there for more than a few months. They are very serious about protecting their culture (we could learn a lot from them).

I believe the best you'll be able to get is a three month visitors visa. However, regulations change so contacting the Japanese embassy is the best way to get the correct information.

You can't just go and live in Japan. You'll need a visa, and there isn't a visa for this. See here: http://www.mofa.go.jp/j_info/visit/visa/long/index.html

Get a job teaching English in Japan. You'll get permit for longer stay, money and chance to meet Japanese from different walks of life.
