Answer:
I look at your question and all I see is your father in law has had government help for his rent for 10 years. That is a long time. On another question of yours, you state you are buying a hobby car for yourself for $6000. Now if he is thrown out into the streets like a dog, who should be more liable, the tax payers who have already been supporting him for 10 years, or his own family who would rather spend their money on expensive hobbies? This is what makes me crazy about public assistance. You can afford to spend $6000 on a hobby car but, your father in law has no income and needs the taxpayers to support him. If it was my own family, they would be living with me already. We don't look for assistance from anyone but our immediate family. If they all lost their jobs and they came to me, they would all be living with me in a heartbeat.

It is a requirement that he prove his elgiability. It is that simple, and one thing should be clear to you: if he came here legally, he has the papers that prove it. If he came here illegally, he does not. I will explain this to you though... a whole lot of people are telling HUD they are in the shape of your father, and they are point blank lying. They have finally gotten around to culling through the files, and in some of the Section 8, a HUGE number of people lied hard to get in and that means a U.S. Citizen did not get in. You may want to get a bigger place.. know what I mean?

What is the problem? He should have his immigration papers to prove his legal status. If they are now requiring that information,he has to supply it or lose his benefits. He should have had to supply this information to them when he started receiving Section 8 ten years ago. If he has no legal status in this country,he shouldn't be getting any taxpayer funded benefits.

It sounds like the solution is for him to provide the information they are asking for. Have him make an info-pass appointment with USCIS... http://infopass.uscis.gov/
