How to check alien status with an alien card.?

  • My Mom's friend was born in 1929!!! He doesn't remember what his status is, and wanted me to check on it for him. is there some simple way to do it other than going through the long process of registering somewhere, to know this info? Thanx.

    No. How long has he lived in the US? He should know how he arrived and what documentation he had. If he was a legal immigrant and lost his registration card, he can apply for a replacement. If he has resided in the US continuously since 1-1-72, and is not a lawful permanent resident, he can obtain permanent residencce by filing form I-485, which is found at uscis.gov.

How could one not know what their immigration status is? Hasn't this guy worked and paid taxes his entire life? Surely he remembers where he was born, that should help. If he was legal in the US in 1937 he would have gotten an SS number when the Social Security Administration was set up. If he didn't it's likely he's out of status. Doubtful ICE would deport someone that aged so he might as well try to apply for social security benefits and see if he's in the system at all.

No, but if he has a Green Card then 99% chance is that he's still a Permanent Resident.
