What is the numbered limit of immigration visas that the government can issue every year?

• What is the limit of immigration visas that the government can issue or does issue every year to those overseas wishing to immigrate to the our home, which is the U.S.? . I heard it was like a million of course we can not have about millions immigrating to the U.S., well before 9-11-01 that was possible. But even before the number of immigrants wasn't at millions it was more like a 1000's. also we could have millions of illegal immigrants coming to the u.s. through mexico if they don't run into the authorities or get stopped somehow.
