Is it possible to change name on college diploma?

Change name on things like passport, diploma etc?

  • I am a U.S citizen and hold an American passport. If I want 2 change my name, is it possible to change it on a passport or a diploma? If not, then once I do, how do I have proof that my old name on my diploma is actually me since I have a new name?

  • Answer:

You can change your name on your passport with evidence of a court decision/order of same. You can't change your name on your diploma, but if it comes to it being necessary for a job or school application, you would need to show the court decision/order as well.

If you change you name via a court order and not by marriage, you can submit a copy of the court order to the school and request that they change your diploma.

because of marraige? that is easy. when you get a new id at the dmv, then a new ss card you can use those to get your name changed on yoru passport. as for your diploma- no one cares. my diploma has my old name on it and no one had ever asked.

If you do go to court and have your name legally changed then you will have to take the papers to the passport office to change it and you will have to keep a copy of the court transaction with your diploma to prove it is yours.

You can get a new passport but it's unlikely any university would change the name on a diploma.
