How can i become a united states citizen?

  • Almost all my life I have lived in the United States, sans the first 2 or 3 years of my life, which are all that matter right now. I was born in mexico, and I know I am an illegal immigrant... but it was not my fault, I did not choose to be a mexican citizen, being an american citizen is my dream. I know english better than most of my fellow american students, and i also have a much higher GPA than average. I have done research but I can not find a single way to become an American citizen, not one other than getting married to a citizen here, but i know that is dis-honest, marrying for citizenship is wrong. I want to become a citizen legally but I can not find a way. More information about me would be that i have been promoted, and never held back once in school, and have had an american education since kindergarten, and I do not see why I do not have the same privileges as everyone else, which again I know is because I am not a citizen. Im about to finish high school in one more year and i know that to get a job and education I would need citizenship. Since I do not live in mexico I am not eligible for any of the customary ways to become a united states citizen like the mexican citizens. I wish that I had more options but I know that I do not, as far as I know anyway. I love america, I love louisiana, I love this life that I have grown up in, the culture, the people. I do not have an accent, i know very little about my native roots and can barely speak my native tongue. I have grown here from 3 to 17, none of the american kids that i know even suspect that i am not a citizen, and have known me since the fabled sandbox. The American Dream is a dream i constantly have and I intend to try my hardest to achieve it. I want my self to prosper, i want to be an American, to have the dream become a reality.I know being illegal puts me in the wrong, but I did not ask to be illegal, i ask to have an opportunity to become an American citizen. America is an amazing country, to be part of it would almost insure that I have the future I see when I sleep. A way to help is bring media attention to this, television, news, internet, would all help answer my question. To all of those that help me I say thank you, and god bless you. I will never forget the people that help me achieve my dream. Hopefully by the time all of this is settled I will be an American like all of you great people.

  • Answer:

it depends. from personal experience i was able to get a work permit while i wait for my visa to be granted. my mother was granted amnesty in the 80's and i was never listed on her paperwork because the lawyer told her not to. but because my mother gained amnesty, i was able to file for what is called Family Unity. I went to the catholic charities and they helped me out a lot with all my stuff. you should be able to find a catholic charities in your area.

This is one of the worst problems caused by the criminal conduct of your parents. Don't blame the US - blame your parents. I truly feel sorry for you - but if there is an amnesty, part of it should be the immediate removal of the illegal parents, and a permanent return ban. My mother's relatives remained in Europe because they had no way to swim the Atlantic. Why should your parents benefit?

Trust me, you don't wanna be a citizen of this country! It sucks! Move to Europe, Canada, New Zealand, or Australia.

Emmy, the U.S. government realizes that children have no influence on where their parents take them, which is why unlawful presence in the U.S. is not recorded until the child becomes an adult, which is at age 18. At that time the "it's my parents' fault" excuse becomes invalid, because as an adult you are expected to understand the difference between right and wrong. You are mistaken in believing that you can become legal by getting married to a U.S. citizen. You can't, because Adjustment of Status (AoS) would require you to have a status to adjust FROM, which you do not have. So you would need to leave the U.S. even under the best of circumstances. If somebody leaves the U.S. after being unlawfully present for 180 days (your 18-1/2 birthday), they would trigger a 3-year bar. If the unlawful presence extends to 1 year (your 19th birthday), the 3-year bar becomes a 10-year bar. Hence, if you are under 18-1/2 I suggest you get the hell out of Dodge and apply for a student visa at the U.S. consulate in Ciudad Juarez. In order to get approved, you'll need an I-20 form which you will receive from the college you apply to as an international student. With a U.S. High School diploma, they will accept you. Once you turn 18-1/2, the train has left the station. In that case you can only hope for the DREAM Act to become law in one form or another. I'm quite sure that will happen in late 2013 to early 2014 during the President's second term when he doesn't have to appease voters anymore. If you have more questions, feel free to e-mail me at [email protected]. P.S. Forget the terms "citizen" and "citizenship." We are talking about immigration benefits, permanent residency, a Green Card, not citizenship. "False claim of U.S. citizenship is the worst non-violent crime a foreigner can commit. Aside from immediate deportation it carries a lifetime bar from the United States with no waiver available. Never, ever, claim to be a U.S. citizen, not even in a casual setting in a club.

If you are here illegally, you are not eligible for citizenship. Citizenship comes after having your green card for at least 5 years. You cannot get a green card while you are living here illegally, even if you get married. In order to get a green card you have to return to your home country and find a way to come back legally. It may not have been your choice to come here as a child, but once you turn 18 the decision to remain here illegally and ignore our laws becomes yours alone. If you return to your home country before you are 18 1/2, you will not be penalized because you were a minor. After that time, you can be deported at any time with a ban on returning. Thank your parents for putting you into this situation, they are the ones who thumbed their noses at our immigration laws.

http://www.us-immigration.com/us-citizenship-and-naturalization-application.jsp?gclid=CIruj86K76wCFRBphwodjQ_XOQ That is a link I found that seems to be legitamit. I hope that this will help you, if not by that website, and another, that you'll become a US citizen and be able to fully live your life! My grandmother was from Mexico and she got her citizenship. I don't know if it was marriage. I would ask her, but for some reason she moved to the middle east. Not kidding. But anyway, good luck!
