How much does it cost to become an Indonesian citizen?

How much would it cost a person (in time and money) to become a Canadian citizen?

  • I know this sounds unpatriotic, dumb, what-have-you, but I've been considering the possibility of moving out of the U.S. and moving to Canada. This is because they have government-run health care and if I didn't have to worry about working where I can get health insurance I would have a much-better chance at establishing a career (in broadcasting, doing behind-the scenes work). I only have 1 year of experience and no means to give employers samples of my past work. I had to leave broadcasting at the end of my time at college because my family's insurance provider was going to drop me from the plan at the end of last year (and sadly, my parents forgot to consider trying to appeal to the provider, now that what little of the controversial Health Care bill has taken effect so far ups the age limit of a dependent on their parents' coverage to age 26--I'll be 24 in a few weeks). Because of having to leave my field too soon, I don't have even a snowball's chance of getting back into my field (what with the recession, high unemployment rates and the fact that my work experience is primarily video editing and production work that rarely pays full-time anyway). I have already been dropped from the family insurance plan, and am getting health care via a second-rate provider through my current job as a wood finish stain wiper for a cabinet factory. I think I stand a better chance if I move somewhere that doesn't screw its terminally ill over like that (I have had diabetes since I was 5 years old and for those of you who want to bring my weight into question, forget it because I was thin then and it came to me via genetics anyway). My parents wouldn't take this seriously, so I'm asking anyone who has moved to Canada from the U.S. I know it would be difficult seeing as it takes a good while to become a citizen of a country, but I'm willing to risk it if it means having to do something with my life other than factory work and avoiding having to spend humiliating hours sending resumes to employers who won't look past my short amount of work experience. I've sent nearly 150 resumes out for broadcast jobs (both online and via snail mail) and I've only received 2 interviews for jobs (both were in the nearest broadcast market and one of them was my former employer in my field). I'm not going to change my career, so don't suggest that. I currently live in southern Indiana, if that helps any in 'calculations'.
