I'm Canadian. How do I make my marriage in UK valid in Canada?

• I'm marrying my English fiancee in London this summer. we will be returning shortly after so I can continue to work. I have 2 questions. please help if you have any info on either of them 1. How do I make my marriage that was validated in the UK valid in Canada (or do I even have to do anything?) 2. What will I have to do to get my wife permanent residency here in Canada? Wife or not, she can not attend school, work, or look for work in Canada prior to obtaining permanent residency nor can she visit for more than 180 days each year. The marriage is automatically valid in Canada -- provided it would otherwise be legal in Canada. It just does not grant her anything in Canada. In order to sponsor her for permanent residency you need to apply to Citizenship and Immigration Canada. Fee is around $525. You will need to show proof of the marriage, submit to a background check, and submit financial statements demonstrating that you can support a dependent. You will need either a steady job, good work history, professional career, or a a lot of savings. The minimum financial requirement starts around $13,000. That part averages about 48 days. Then she will need to undergo background checks, interviews, and screening by the embassy in London. Fortunately, the London office only averages around 7 months for this. However, it is often better that she stay in the UK working, as she can not work or look for work in Canada and she can not visit for more than 180 days. This is definitely something you will want to take about with an immigration lawyer. Considering the costs and seriousness of this, it is not something you want to take chances with.
