i have been living in US for 13 years legally, is there way to obtain a greencard or citizenship? i am currently an F1 student and i came here when i was 10 years old and now 23 years old. I was wondering if there is any way because i lived here legally for so long that there is way to get a greencard or citizenship. Thank you!

Answer:
Not based on your previous or current visas. Your situation isn't different from somebody who came with a student visa. If your parents have greencards they can sponsor you, but since you are over 21 it won't be fast. You can read through the different options here: http://www.uscis.gov/portal/site/uscis/menuitem.eb1d4c2a3e5b9ac89243c6a7543f6d1a/?vgnextoid=ae853ad15c673210VgnVCM100000082ca60aRCRD&vgnextchannel=ae853ad15c673210VgnVCM100000082ca60aRCRD But apart from marriage to an US citizen I assume you are not going to get a greencard easily. I guess you could try the greencard lottery (it's free, and only open in October) if you are from a country which can enter.

If you are not a U.S. citizen by birth or did not acquire/derive U.S. citizenship automatically after birth, you may still be eligible to become a citizen through the naturalization process. Eligible persons use the "Application for Naturalization" (Form N-400) to apply for naturalization. Persons who acquired citizenship from parent(s) while under 18 years of age use the "Application for Certificate of Citizenship" (Form N-600) to document their citizenship. Qualified children who reside abroad use the "Application for Citizenship and Issuance of Certificate under Section 322" (Form N-600K) to document their naturalization.

You can try for a H-1B employment visa, which may eventually lead to a green card, or you can marry a US citizen. Even immigration reform like the DREAM Act would not help you because you are here legally. That's right. Only young people who were brought illegally or who entered with tourist visas and overstayed can get documents that will lead to a green card if the DREAM Act passes. Students like you whose parents have been paying tuition for years instead sending their kids to public schools "for free" will not be eligible.

Most Americans are glad to welcome you. Good to see some immigrants still try to come legally. If you're an illegal immigrant, you will be deported, so if you are, don't try. If not, I'm sure you can ask around and see if someone can help you gain citizenship.

Under what visa did you come here when you were 10? Certainly not an F1. A student visa does not make you eligible for a green card.

Nope.
