UK passport traveling to USA?

Traveling on a UK passport after divorce and name change?

  • Hi there, My boyfriend recently got divorced. He is from the UK, has a UK passport and is a permanent U.S. resident. He took his wife's last name and following the divorce, he changed his last name back to his previous last name. On his passport and his green card, his last name is hyphenated with his "maiden" name and her name. We are planning a trip out of the country in the next couple of weeks and just discovered that he hasn't changed his name on either of these documents. Since part of his last name is still the same on the green card and passport, are we okay? If we list his name exactly as it is on his passport and green card on the plane ticket, will he be okay getting back into the country -- even though that's not his legal name on his drivers license or social security card? Any other solutions? Thank you!

  • Answer:

I am sure he will have no problem getting back into the country using his UK passport, but i would strongly advice you to change his name on the TKT to the way it appears on his passport and use the passport as his ID because having a diff. last name on his green card or his tkt. from his passport it will cause you headache with the immigration officers at the airport. I mentioned changing the name on his TKT because it is a lot faster than going through the process of changing his name on his Green Card. but eventually he will have to deal with it... Cheers
