Which present is better?

Which is a better wedding present- a painting or a drawing?

  • My aunt's wedding was a few weeks ago. She sent pictures from the wedding, and I was hoping to send her a painting as a wedding present, but I can't decide whether I should paint it or draw it. A painting would definitely look nicer and grander. The only problem is, I'm better with drawing. If I could draw it in pencil, It would look much more professional, I'm not trying to brag but I am reaaally good at doing portraits of people, and I've never really painted people before, mostly scenery, fruits, etc. So which one should I do? Please help!

How about you just try painting, and if it backfires, do a drawing. Painting a person for the first time can be really scary, but if you take your time you could pull it off really well!

I think you should stick with what you know and what you're good at. Also, drawings are a better long term gift, because they are always easy to hang (or display). A painting might be really pretty, but can be tricky if it doesn't go with the room decor. My best friend gave me a drawing once (her hubby did it) of our favorite hangout in college, and then she matted and framed it really nicely. I've moved several times since I got this, and I've never had a problem figuring out where to hang or display it.

Obviously, one does what one is best qualified to do. Did you promise a painting? If so, you will need to tell your aunt that you prefer to do a drawing. If you made no such promise, do the drawing and frame it in a professsional manner. ......................................…

Yes, painting would have been the better option, but ,since you're better at drawing then there's no harm drawing something really good, maybe a countryside view or a beach view. That'll do it.

Maybe do like a pencil sketch, then ink it up make it look really good, then a nice coloured pencil colouring?

I would do the drawing. It is where your talent is. Your aunt and new uncle will be touched by your gift that comes from your heart and your talents.

Well, if you're better at drawing then do a drawing. But, the fact that it came from someone she loves, I am sure she would appreciate whichever one you choose to do. I would just do a pencil drawing, but do your very very VERY best and make it look like a picture, I bet if it looks that good it would be better than a painting. But it's the thought that counts. Good luck.

I would go with the drawing. I like to dabble in a bit of art myself, but I haven't had a lot of practice with paints. So I would definitely go with pencil. If you are confident with both mediums maybe you could use both and then choose which one you like better. :)

I say do the painting and that is a nice gift. Good luck.
