Getting married in December when should save the dates and invites go out?
-
I'm getting married December 18th 2010 and was wondering when save the dates and the invites should go out. I was thinking the save the dates need to go out at the end of July and the invites in September. Would that be right or should they have all have gone out by now?

Answer:
Save the Dates would go out around the end of June. Although you really don't need them ... remember that anyone who received a Save the Date must also get a wedding invitation, and you will most likely amend your original wedding list before you send out the invitations. By sending out Save the Dates, you may be stuck inviting certain people that you would've otherwise taken off your list. September is WAY too early for the wedding invitations to go out. It depends on when your caterer needs a final head count, and you need to give yourself a week or two to wait for late replies and to call people who never replied at all. I would personally send them out about eight weeks ahead of time, and give everyone four weeks to reply. So send them out around October 18 and give a reply date of November 18. Unless your caterer needs more than a month's notice for the meals (but I doubt it - most caterers need anywhere from four days to two weeks, tops).

Once you set an official date for the wedding, and the venue is booked, send out the save-the-dates. So yes, you should send them out now.

Save-the-Dates should go out as soon as you book your venue and set the date in stone. Invites should go out 6-8 weeks in advance.

I am sending my save the dates out 6 months in advance and then the invitations out 3 months before the wedding.
why save the date? invites go out in plenty of time for people to make plans. i never understood this new save the date thing.

Save the dates should go out 9-12 months in advance, so for you that would be back in March. However, since you wedding isn't on a holiday weekend, it shouldn't be a problem. Are you having a destination wedding? If not, that's even better for guests to get them now. Wedding invitations should be mailed out 6 weeks prior to the wedding, which is around November 6th. Rsvp should be expected back 2-3 weeks prior to the wedding date. November 27 to December 4th range.

Save the dates-august. Invites, 8 weeks prior to your wedding.
