    Technically no qualifications. There are oodles of designers who have no qualifications. Unfortunately the salary for designers varies from nothing to a gazillion.... Depends on how hard you work and how lucky you are.

I designed a dress for my best friend's wedding (yes, really!). It was a simple mid-weight ivory silk-satin sleeveless shift with a sweetheart neckline edged in seed pearls with fishtail hem, topped with a heavier weight embossed silk long riding coat with a train and single front fastening of twisted silk cord, a padded stand-up 'snow white' collar and short equestrian top-hat with silk lily trim and short plain net veil. That'll be £25000 please! Seriously, the first thing you need is imagination and a good education in cutting and tailoring. In the UK I'd recommend Goldsmith's College, London. And it is HARD work.
