Is there anyone not having an engagement party?

We are getting married in 2 weeks and when we got engaged we did not have a party. We were with his family at a beach house when he proposed. When we told people, that was it. Our wedding will be the party to plan. Besides, why stress about another event to coordinate? Congrats!

An engagement party is not necessary. I didn't have one when I got engaged. I don't think I've ever known anyone to have an engagement party.

You or your maid of honour throws it, possibly your mother. It's a party, are parties mandatory? Hell no, don't bother if you don't want to.

We didn't. It's not really done where we are from.

I'm not having one. Mostly because our engagement is going to last a couple of years, and also because we're college students with no social lives :) I don't think they are necessary beyond getting gifts. I would just send out announcements if you wanted people to find out in a formal way

Not necessary....send out cards and announce your engagement to the ones close to you. Shoot in these times...you can send out a nice email with your pic and announcement info. All you do there is say hey were engaged...lets eat. save your money for the actual wedding.

Well Im not going to. I personally see it as a gift grab but even with that aside I only have a few close friends nearby and half my bridal party and all fam live out of state. Im saving the celebration for my wedding.

It is nice but not necessary. We had one when we were engaged, it was actually a surprise at the marina when we returned. It was a very nice event but not necessary.
