Is there such a thing as a free, online psychiatrist?

Is it me or is this a disgusting thing for a psychiatrist to say?

  • i was having my assesment today for bipolar disorder, the person i saw was VERY unhelpful. ill list the things she said that i think were very unprofessional Self ham is a teenage thing, do you think at 19 you have now grown out of it if you are going to self harm do it on your belly or legs, you dont want people seeing that. GPs think everyone has bipolar now, your too young. Is it me or is that bad!

  • Answer:

That's horrible! Go see someone else. I'm 14 and have been diagnosed (correctly, I may add) with bipolar. And self harm isn't a "teenage thing". I know a girl that started in 3rd grade and I know a guy that didn't get rid of it until he was about 23. And that's horrible to say "do it on your belly or legs..." How horrible! See someone else. And remember, you're beautiful. Try to forget what that idiot said and don't give up hope.

It's unprofessional and insensitive. There are adults who still cut themselves, mainly as a habit formed in teenage. It's still cutting if done on the belly or legs. And if someone finds it, he or she might enquire about it and help out. Someone at 19 can be bipolar. It's better if you find some other doctor. Anyway, if he or she thinks that you don't have a bi issue, why go there? You may find the link I have posted useful to read.

your doctor is the greatest SOB. (son of a beach). Beat him & go to some other who is professional.

dude, this is totally not you!! some people haven't got a fricking clue what they are on about when it comes to self harm but if they are a professional they should. i would say its a good idea to go to a different person about this...

Very unprofessional.. i know a girl who saw a psychiatrist, and the psychiatrist advised her that her best option was to get welfare benefits and not bother about seeing any counsellors. Some psychiatrists are totally crazy and shouldn't be in the job. Speak to your GP and tell them everything that was said. He/she should then refer you to another psychiatrist, and possibly will look into your psychiatrist's inappropriateness.

I imagine he is tired of all the teenagers who think that they have Bipolar..... have you seen all the questions on here from kids who have a mood swing and think they are Bipolar? I know I'm sick of it. Also cutting IS a teenage fad right now. He may not have been very sensitive but at least he was honest.

Its bad disgusting and rude and extremely unprofessional
