Terrible images in my mind at random, how can I get help?
-
I don't know what is wrong with me or how to get help. I'm terrified to ask because I don't want people to look at me differently and if they knew the problems I have they would. Since about 16 I started getting these random images in my head and they could be triggered either random or by something I heard or saw. At first they weren't bad but a few years later I don't know how much longer I can deal with them. Over time these images and thoughts have gotten extraordinarily violent to the point where I've shook quite bad after and when it happened today I ended up in tears. When this happens I turn into a total wreck. I don't want to say any of the things but take the worst thing you can think of and multiply it a few times. Sometimes I'll go weeks without this happening and then other times it'll after a few time over a few days, or a few times in one day. This can easily ruin my day because I often can't get stuff out of my mind easily after. I don't know what to do any more and I don't know what is wrong with me. I feel terrible and to be honest don't know how long I can cope with this. I'm not looking for answers here on what is wrong with me I just need to know how to get help and what I should do. The last time this happened was earlier today which has prompted me to look for help because today was the worst one yet.

This may sound completely different than what you probably expected as far as answers go, but did you ever look into or consider that you might have Obsessive Compulsive Disorder? As strange as that sounds, one of the symptoms of OCD is having unwanted thoughts and I've heard and seen things about people having thoughts they would never act on, like harming their own children, raping, torturing, killing, and unable to get the thoughts from their mind. I would look up information on OCD and read up on it and see if more of the symptoms might sound familiar to you. If so, you can go to your doctor and ask for help with it. There are treatment options that do work for OCD in helping with the symptoms. Since you haven't mentioned purposefully trying to think such things or wanting such thoughts, but they keep coming anyway, I would think something like OCD would be very likely.
Egad that's not normal? I've had that all my life, i also can't get some thoughts out of my head no matter how horrible they are until i repeat them several times, also sometimes i have this word stuck in my head that i just have to say multiple times before the urge to say the word goes away, but that's just crazy old me...
