If I've only been sleeping 5 or 6 hours a day for several months, how long before I get rid of my sleep debt?

To what extent is sleep debt cumulative? How long would it take to abolish my sleep debt if I sleep 9 hours a day? Does sleep debt really work that way (I'm in sleep debt for every hour under 8 hours of sleep I miss)? Or is that an exaggeration/myth? Could I be back to 100% if I sleep at least 8 hours a day for a week or two? I'm only 19, and I don't feel that bad unless I really don't get that much sleep. So what's it gonna take if I've been going to sleep late periodically for about 6 months?
