Why do I always feel anxious?

When Im anxious - which is ALWAYS I feel like I will die if I stop & be still.Does anyone eles feel like this?

  • What can I do to relax and be calm. I try breathing and stretching and things but it is like I fear relaxing. I fear loosing control when I relax. I sometimes think I will die if I relax. I am always worried always wound up and anxious. It can take me right over the edge if there is a crisis in my life and my main state of normality is an anxious one. I have lived my life in a state of fear and nerves and I have never been able to calm down from it. It is begining to make me feel and get sick. I need to relax.......but how can I without falling apart or panicking? Thanks

sounds to me like you have an anxiety disorder coupled with some panic attacks. You definitely need to talk to a doctor about it. But also what might help is if you just think to yourself, "I know I'm not going to die", then relax and you'll see you won't die. Music is also a powerful tool that can distract you and relax you simultaneously.

I've felt like that. OMG I thought it was just me. I don't feel like that all the time though. What I do is I think really hard in my mind and focus and try to think of something else. Because when I try to calm down it also dosn't work for me and I just panic more. When I think of something else I think about a person or an incident that would keep me thinking about it. Even if it's something I don't necessarily want to think about normally. This is the best way for me to try to distract myself. I also breathe deeply. I feel exactly the way you do. I don't know what to say. Because if i say relax I know just hearing that will do the exact opposite. Try to distract yourself. Usually this happens to me while I'm at school. One time I just felt like running out. I felt as if I was going to pass out, my heart was racing, and the more I thought about feeling better the worse I felt. Hopefully it will get better. They do have pills for anxiety. Maby that may help.

Hmm, i only get like this sometimes, but i'll try and suggest something anyways =] Um, personally i find being organised helps, planning things, not having a overcrowded messy room, listening/ singing along to music, being in control of situations ??? && possibly figuring out what maybe causes the anxiety =] Hope this helps..

Negative emotions (like sadness, stress, anger, etc.) causes your Serotonin production to be low; when your Serotonin level is low, you are more prone to getting Anxiety, Panic Attacks, Depression, etc. Medication like Antidepressants (SSRI - Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitor) helps to boost Serotonin level. But there are natural ways to do it without medication. There's this strange herb called "St John's Wort" - it is said to be more effective than Prozac. No, it is not for mild depression only and ignore those sayings. In fact, it does help anxiety and panic-attacks as St John's Wort works like prozac. Other natural ways will be exercise, diet, more exposure to light, etc. The problem is that, even if your Serotonin is balanced... you have that "learned behavior" in your mind. You need to break that initial cycle to destroy that learned behavior - Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) does this. A technique that you can use without CBT will be Distraction... There are several other techniques to help cope them! Ok, to use Distraction: Firstly, try to.... Extracted from Source.

If you dfont have anything actually physicaly wrong with you like some sort of a heart condition etc. then keep telling yourself no matter how bad you feel its nothing serious. I actually had real physical problems where something is wrong with my heart and I have a serious neurological condition but when my symptoms get bad enough that I feel like im going to die then worrying about it only speeds up your heart and your body even more and you fall into a vicious cyle of panic. The way I overcame it was I started telling myself "oh well if I die I die and theres nothing I can do about it", cause worrying about it only makes it worse I know this is hard to explain but I got to a point in my life where worrying about my symptoms was only making me feel actually worse so I ended up switching off one day and not caring if I died cause I thought even death is better than suffering like this and you know what as soon as I stopped caring if I die my anxiety asociated with my symptoms disapeared. So seeng as you dont have anything physicaly wrong with you, it should be even easier for you then me to tell yourself "oh well whatever happens..happens..and if i die..so be it...worrying aint gona change anything,..it only makes it worse, and you will find that once you stop caring your anxiety also disapears with it and you find that you havent wont died, especially if there is nothing physically wrong with you.

I use to experience that all the time and my stomach would be tense all day and I wouldn't breath... I don't experience this anymore. The first thing was to learn how to get into a state of perfect balance. Usually breathing and stretching work, but if you are too far gone its not strong enough. I'd actually suggest doing something much more physical like boxing - even just bouncing around and air boxing, somehow it clears your mind and forces you to focus on a target. Another suggestion is to take a cold shower. Once you've done one of these things then try doing some stretches and then the breathing. Ultimately, you'll need a full on meditation practice - this takes time to develop and the more years you do this the stronger your practice. What it comes down to is that your anxiety will make you sick, its really really bad for your body to be running adrenaline and stress hormones 24/7. So the fact that you feel like you will die is because you're allowing yourself to stay on edge for the whole day, stress causes a lot of diseases and you'll start seeing this when you hit your 30's. It sounds like your nerves are totally fried - you actually may need to take a vacation to let them heal. Definently pick up meditation so that you can give your nerves a rest even if its just for 5 minutes of the day.
