Degree to become a mental health nurse advice please!?

I want to become a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse, and work in a clinical setting. What degree(s) would I need to become this? And how long would it take to achieve them? ALSO, I will be getting my GED and then going to college, so I know thats not going to look very good on my resume so is there a certain college I will be able to get in that will look a little better on my resume? I know a GED and most likely community college isn't ideal but its the best I can do. Any advice or help is appreciated.

A degree to be a psychiatric nurse? I have heard it all now. They are just dumb simpletons who are institutionalised to ignorance and cruelty, a degree for them would be a a waste of good education time.

As an experienced mental health nurse, my recommendation is "Go into accounting". Nursing is more heavily regulated than manufacturing nuclear weapons. Nurses see people at their worst, and people often lie, causing nurses to go looking for other jobs with unfair terminations on their records...and mental health patients are worse. If you really want to do it...you need a nursing degree (LPN or AAS in Nursing), a BS in Nursing is probably best. Take lots of psych electives; getting an AAS in Psychology, Sociology, or Human Services would not hurt. Take extra pharmacology classes. If your state requires CEU's, then focus on Mental Health issues when you choose them.
