Lexapro and adderall question?

  • I am a 35 who was diagnosed as a young child with dislexeas and a learning disability. When I was younger ADD/ADHD was not on the radar. About 4 years ago I had a panic attack that had me end up in the hospital! I was in the processes of losing a job and things were unknown. I was given lexapro and Xanax. I Would take 10-20 mg of lexapro and a Xanax maybe 3 a week. These drugs seemed to make my head very cloudly. And increase my anxiety, after some research I did and talking to some people, I realized that some of the systopms could be related to ADD that was never diagnosed as a child! So last week I made a appointment with my doc and I told he what I was thinking and he agree with me after listen to me. He put me on a very small dose of aderall! I will tell you the first day I felt great! The cloudless was gone(!!!!!!) which sometimes feels Like equal limbreua is. I was so happy because I that I was really onto something. We day two came and it was totally different. I had a work party for my wife and I felt anxiety before we even left for the party! Then about an hour into the party I started to feel really really anxiety. I took another xanx and couldn't sit down! I was feeling a little better right before we had to go. The next day I ha to work and felt good for most of the morning but then the anxiety came back strong. I poped another xanx and was feeling good. So here is the problem i took 3 xanx in two days and that might have been what I took before in a whole week. But I love that the cloudlyness is gone! So I looking for people that might be in my same boat! I can increase my lexapro from 10 to 20mg because I was cutting them in half, in hopes that might stop the xanx use. Buy I was wondering if anyone was on both drugs and stopped taking lexapro. Because I have never been depressed and I think it was ADD all along! Just looking for other peoples insight thanks! I know this was alot of rambling!

  • Answer:

Adderall is a stimulant, so it can and probably will increase your anxiety. The most important thing for you is to see a therapist and work on your anxiety so you won't have to take pills for it for the rest of your life. Xanax is amazing for anxiety, but it is supposed to be only used for a short period of time. Any doctor that puts a patient on it for a long period of time isn't a good doctor. It is addicting, your body quickly builds up a tolerance to it so you have to increase your dose, and many people die trying to come off of it after being on it daily for several years. Even though lexapro is an antidepressant, it also works for anxiety. Lexapro would be what you would use to treat your anxiety over a long period of time. Initially it can make it worse, but from what it sounds like, you have been taking it for a while, so it won't be an issue for you. You just have to talk to your doctor to find the correct dose that will work for treating your anxiety. Don't make any dosage changes without talking to your doctor. Also, slowly cut your xanax dose, don't just quit taking xanax, it can make your anxiety much worse. Talk to your doctor about it.
