What do psychiatrists do?

What can psychiatrists say to people about your sessions?

  • I am recently having some personal problems. For around 2 years I have been very depressed. I have changed many of my beliefs and have had many thoughts of suicide. I told my parents this, and they called me "selfish and stupid" for wanting to kill myself. I am going to my first visit to a psychiatrist Tuesday and I need to know out of what I tell them, what they can tell and not tell my parents (I am 16 years old)

  • Answer:

They can tell them if you want to or are planning on hurting yourself. In that case you will probably be sent to a hospital. If there is no real danger of you doing the deed and it is just something that you have passively on your mind he will let it slide. He is not going to tell them anything don't worry. It's not like a teacher at school lol he is not going to call them and be like your son is being bullied lol. haha He would suggest you tell your parents instead. I hope this helped lol! :)

Other answers

They can't say anything to anyone unless you are harming yourself, going to harm someone else, or being harmed by someone.

Melody

Like the others have said unless you are harming yourself, someone else, or are planning to harm yourself or anyone else they cannot tell anyone anything. It is doctor-patient confidentiality.
