Am I allergic to Zoloft?

Lexapro or Zoloft for anxiety?

  • I have an extreme anxious fear of schizophrenia that causes anxiety attacks for me. I do not get depressed but I was depressed for the second week while I was on Zoloft. I am currently on zoloft, it's been about 3 1/2 weeks now and I feel alright I guess. I have racing thoughts at times but I think they are improving. I have racing thoughts whenever I am idle and not thinking, I have very vivid dreams from the Zoloft, dry mouth, I grind my teeth and slight insomnia. I also have had a decrease in motivation to do anything at all. I don't feel depressed, just feel like I don't care about anything. I took lexapro once and I instantly felt bad. About 15 mins after I took it, I felt panicky. I had racing thoughts, and I couldn't sleep at all that night. I was having vivid dreams of weird creatures and I never took it again. The panic attack on lexapro was horrible. I started zoloft and am still on it, along with situational klonopin which works fantastic for me. Which drug would be better for just anxiety (no depression) and a little ocd? The ocd comes from when I had a panic attack, I became obsessive that it could be schizophrenia and I can't give that idea up, it's all I think about and I am starting to avoid all social situations and I get anxious when I go out of the house bc I am afraid to have a psychotic break in a place where I don't feel safe. What would be the best drug for me to try even if it is not lexapro or zoloft?

  • Answer:

Different meds work for different people. Some get helped by Prozac other get worse by it. You can know only if you try and give it time to work. But in your case (fear of schizophrenia) psychotherapy is essential with medication. But between Zoloft and lexapro, I'd try zoloft 1st.

Zoloft works pretty well for me, but both Zoloft and Lexapro are SSRIs so if neither are working you might need to try a different type of anti-depressant. However, it can sometimes take up to 6 weeks for the medication to take full effect, and the worst thing to do is to quit any psychiatric medication cold turkey. As far as Lexapro, it made me even more depressed and I actually attempted suicide while I was on it. I have heard many more stories of teens on Lexapro that have become worse or have thought about/attempted suicide because of that, but it could just be a teen thing.

I don't understand the "little ocd(obsessive compulsive disorder)" but the anxiety... I personally didn't like either of those meds. My family member(s) didnt do well on either, but I am also unsure of the reason bc I was under the impression they are both anti-deppresants, which both have tendancies to deepen depression especially with those who aren't "depressed" It also depends on your age, if your younger you should be very wary of taking this. Also speak more clearly to the doc. so he can better assist you. After 3 1/2 weeks you should be doing much better if not you should def. get it checked out:) It seems that you have alot of "symptons" like you may be very over worried, just relax, it seems like you are trying so hard to find something wrong with you. Be careful and try another doc. or med.
