I'm obsessed with death and also afraid to sleep. Are these two things linked?
-
I'm a weirdo and there's a lot of things that aren't right in my head, but two major things are that I'm obsessed with death and I'm becoming afraid of sleep. The death thing is just, pretty much everything you can think of. Almost every thought I have relates back to death, or the ways people could die, or when the person I'm speaking to will die and how, etc. etc. It doesn't frighten me, it just interests me. Because of this I have an unnatural interest in gory, morbid or horrific events, and horror films. The second thing is, I don't want to sleep. It's so stupid, I'm 16 but I'm acting like a 6yr old. My mom MAKES me go to bed at like 1 or 2am, and I'm always very tired, but I don't want to sleep. I'll stay up as long as I can, getting coffee or 'going to the bathroom', until my mom either flips out at me or gets bored and goes to sleep herself. If she leaves me alone I'll watch movies until dawn, when I usually fall asleep on the couch by accident. If she makes me go to bed I lie awake for hours, thinking. I don't often have nightmares, and I'm not like AFRAID afraid... I just really, really don't want to sleep. It's not because I think about scary things, in fact, thinking about death is calming. I'll usually try and wake up as early as I can by setting my alarm, but sometimes I sleep through it for hours and hours. I've only had this problem for a few months, the death thing's been since I was very young. Are the two linked, like, subconsciously or something?

Answer:
Often obsessions are linked, fears and such. I used to be afraid of heights, and of falling. These two were linked to the fear of death. I also had a fear of the dark, and had problems sleeping. Night tremors. You would not know this the things I did. Liked jumping off things, going fast, and tempting death. Was not until I had given my heart to Christ, as Lord and Savior, did these fears, go away.

Well... The fact that you find thinking about death to be "calming" as you said, leads me to ask the next obvious question. Are you depressed and feel that death is a way out, such that thoughts of death calm you? Are you thinking about hurting or killing yourself? If so, you need emergency medical attention. If not, you probably should make an appointment with your doctor to talk about these feelings. It sounds like you definitely could have some emotional problems going on that should be treated. Update: The fact that you are on Prozac makes me even more concerned actually. Prozac type anti-depressants sometimes actually increase suicidal thoughts in teenagers--so much so that the FDA requires a warning about the increased risk of suicide in teens taking drugs like Prozac. I really think you need to follow up with the doctor that prescribed the Prozac and tell him more about these feelings. You might need an adjustment in medication.
You are not stupid. There are many types of sleep disorders. You should seek out a professional in the field of sleep disorders. If you feel that you can't talk to your parents about what's been troubling you then talk to your school councelor or a relative.A lack of sleep does cause many problems and your interrest in death may be one of them. Please seek help and good luck to you.
The whole death thing idk but u need to sleep. There was this dude in a hot air balloon crossing (I think it was the north poll but idk it was somewhere cold and snow filled) he didn't sleep for three days straight then his brain pretty much said F U and made him black out. U need to rest your brain so it has time to rest. That same guy was wokin up by an emergency alarm warning him that he was to low. So since he hadn't slept for so long he was stupid as hell and that alarm scared him$hitless to the point that he almost dove out of the hot air balloon. People don't like to diet but they do it anyways, get ur sleep dude.
