Dirt bike wants to start but will not stay started?

  • its a 1984 kx 250 i cleand the carb with carb cleaner and put it all back together got on the bike tryed to kick it over it started for like a second then died. but when i took the carb apart my father inlaw ajusted the tang without looking at anything and i noticed when i kick it over and give it gas the gas just pores out and will not start but it tryed to start it that one time after he ajusted the float and it stared for a second and died then i tried to kick it over again and nothing not even acting like it wants to start anymore

  • Answer:

Well it sounds like a gas/air mix problen right off the bat. After that you may want to check your feul filter and clean or replace it. It may not be letting enough gas through to keep the bike running. Also you can check your timing just to be sure it's good. Clean spark plugs and all that mess will also help.

The float level in the carb needs attention. Pull the spark plug and clean/dry/or replace. Try again to start the bike. If just a flicker of starting, hold the throttle WIDE OPEN, try again for five-ten kicks. If still doesn't start the float is letting in too much fuel and needs attention.
