Is high heat primer necessary?

What kind of primer and/or paint do I need to produce a glossy finish that can stand extreme heat?

  • I want to paint the passenger foot pegs and chain guard on my bike with ending results looking glossy and able to stand months maybe years of heat and other weather elenments without taking it to a shop/ professional. Is there a certain procedure and particular kind of painting products I should buy?

  • Answer:

Neither your foot pegs nor your chain guard are parts that experience "extreme heat". Where did you come up with that idea? Get a rattle can of primer and enamel and spray.

How much heat do you expect? For really hot areas, you can use header/exhaust paint (you can find spray cans in your local hardware/auto store). If you want a really durable finish, send the parts out to be powder-coated. Otherwise, multiple coats of a good enamel paint and a coat of clear will last for years.

you can get high Temperature paint , usually used on exhausts .
