Where are the best places to park a motorcycle in LA (sidewalk parking)?
-
I live in LA and just bought a Yamaha R6, and I was wondering where the best places would be to park it. I've been doing some research, and from what i've gathered, it's illegal to park on sidewalks, but people do it all the time and usually as long as it's not blocking anybody you can do it for a short period of time without any hassle? I see motorcycles parked by bike racks or near store entrances out of the way. Is this usually acceptable? Also, if I have to park in the lot, should I only park if I can get an end spot where i'm visible to other cars? I know that some cars just plow into a spot that they think is empty without any regard. As far as parking on the street, I know to park at an angle with my back wheel against the curb to make myself more visible. My main question is if it is acceptable (and if I will get ticketed) for parking my bike on a sidewalk if it is out of the way of pedestrians. Also, considering the fact that it's a sportbike and appealing to those asshole thieves out there, I bought a kryptonite lock/chain and a disc lock. Should these be adequate deterrents? Thanks.

Answer:
1st of all, you answered your own question. It's illegal, so why risk getting it impounded?? Park like the rest of the people and use a space, or get your bike taken...its simple. Locks are always a deterrent, especially Krypto's and disc locks, so you should be ok. Dont take an unnecessary risk, unless you want to pay the price.

A little trick I do is to get close to the handicap parking. On the back side of the spaces, there's always a little cubby hole to back your bike into. There you will see those big yellow concrete filled posts that you can put your chain around. A disc lock is fine but four strong frat boys can take your bike and chunk it into the back of a pickup... Start looking for those little cubby holes that are always there,... it takes practice to find 'em. If nothing else, if you peruse this board long enough you run across this cat... Dimo J. He lives in socal and can clue you in alot better....
use a chain and chain it to something that the city does not own. you can`t chain to city property like a street light or sign post. if you don`t chain it to something , the AH`s will just pick it up and load it. get an alarm that screams if the bike is moved or tilted. it just uses your horn.easy to do. If they can pick it up and load it .your locks wont do squat . and you might get a ticket every now and then for parking on the walk. my last ticket was $25 , not a big deal.
