Motorcycle Chain Problem.

Pit Bike Problems! Motorcycle moves forward while the motor is running on 1st and 2nd gears?

  • It has the strongest chain-pull on 1st gear. It goes pretty fast without applying throttle or anything (without sitting on it, but slower sitting on it). The moving gradually decreases as the gears go up. 2nd is less, 3rd is even less and 4th it barley moves. I think it might be a "centrifugal clutch" problem because it is semi-automatic transmission. It is a 70cc engine. The causes for this problem might be: 1. It has tipped over about 5 times since I had it (2 months). 4 times on soft grass and 1nce on gravel (medium sized rocks) 2. This is my first bike and I am learning to ride still (it is a 2007 70cc Chinese Bike, with a Honda-clone motor). And while I was learning to change gears, I was doing it wrong. I finally learned how to shift up to 4th gear, but I still didn't learn how to down shift correctly until yesterday (pushing down on the shift lever until the bike has almost come to a complete stop). So do I have to open up the "centrifugal clutch" (by taking off the protective metal cap on the left side of the motor above the gear-selector. IF NOT THEN WHERE IS THE CLUTCH?) and adjust the "clutch adjust screw" using a flat screwdriver? Help I'm so worried. How much do you think it would cost to get it repaired at a local Dirt Bike shop (where I bought it from)?? PLEASE HELP!! And THANK YOU in advance!! P.S. It still runs and works fine. It's just that one HUGE problem!! I can't leave it on first/second gear with the motor running and the kick-stand down because it will flip up (because of it moving forward) and cause the Motorcycle to flip on it's side and cut of the engine (it will stop). links: *The [Chinese Honda-clone] Pit Bike I have: http://www.jetmotousa.com/view_atv.htm?pid=2548841 http://www.cheapatvshop.com/chinese_atv/jetmoto_pit_bike_70cc.html *Do I have to do this?: http://www.ehow.com/how_4856778_adjust-centrifugal-clutch.html

  • Answer:

To make it quick and painless, your centrifugal clutch springs are shot. Most dirt bike shops wont touch those knock off bikes because parts are too hard to come by, and its a liability risk if the accidentally break something on one. The clutch will most likely have to be replaced....the good news is that a centrifugal clutch is a pretty easy fix. Usually just under the side cover, and it will probably be held on with one bolt (may be reverse threaded) and a woodruff key.
